LeBron James Sued By Lakers Fan Over ‘Second Decision’ Ad

LeBron James is at the center of a new lawsuit after a Lakers fan accused him of misleading viewers with his viral “The Second Decision” teaser. The fan claims James’ post hinted at a major career announcement. He says he bought costly game tickets before learning it was a Hennessy advertisement.

Lebron James sued by fan over misleading ad

LeBron James faces a small claims lawsuit from Lakers fan Andrew Garcia, who claims the NBA star misled him with “The Second Decision.”

According to documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Garcia claims he lost $865.66 after interpreting James’ social media teaser as a retirement hint. The 29-year-old fan said he bought two tickets for $432.83 each, believing it would be James’ final game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 31, 2026.

Garcia stated that James’ post, teasing “a big decision,” led him to assume the basketball icon was ending his career. When the following day’s reveal turned out to be a Hennessy advertisement, Garcia said the tickets “lost almost all of their value.” He filed suit in Los Angeles County on Wednesday, citing “fraud, deception, misrepresentation, and any and all basis of legal recovery.”

“I wouldn’t have purchased it if he wasn’t going to retire. Plain and simple,” Garcia told TMZ Sports. The complaint argues that James’ phrasing and promotional strategy created a false impression that caused financial loss to devoted fans.

Garcia’s case is the first formal legal filing related to “The Second Decision.” Many fans online expressed frustration over the rollout, calling it misleading. The ad, released on Tuesday, showed James using the same dramatic buildup as his 2010 ESPN special, “The Decision.”

As of October 8, 2025, LeBron James has not issued any public comment regarding the lawsuit or fan backlash. The filing remains under review in Los Angeles County small claims court, and no hearing date has yet been set.
