Chicago Fire Showrunner Reveals if Ritter Would Return After Leaving

Chicago Fire fans said goodbye to one of Firehouse 51’s most loved members in the October 8 episode.

Daniel Kyri’s Darren Ritter left the show after an evolving arc, but the exit doesn’t seem to be final just yet. The showrunner, Andrea Newman, has talked about his possible return.

Daniel Kyri’s Darren Ritter leaves Chicago Fire

Daniel Kyri’s Darren Ritter left Chicago Fire after deciding to take an “extended furlough” to New York City, reuniting with his ex-boyfriend Dwayne.

The episode picked up after Ritter’s quick trip to New York in the premiere, where Dwayne was shot on duty. “This week was a lot,” Ritter admitted to Violet after returning to Chicago. He explained that he rushed to the hospital the moment Mouch told him Dwayne had been shot. But once there, things got complicated as Dwayne’s family showed up, and Ritter couldn’t shake the guilt that his choices may have led Dwayne to New York.

Violet reminded him not to repeat her own mistake with Sam. Ritter eventually called Dwayne, and their two-hour conversation changed everything. Dwayne admitted he regretted walking away, so they ended up agreeing to get back together.

Before leaving, Ritter said goodbye to Mouch, Violet, and Novak. When Novak pointed out it was only for a few months, Ritter smiled and said, “We’ll see what happens,” hinting that the move could become permanent.

Will Daniel Kyri’s Ritter return in Chicago Fire Season 14 or beyond?

Showrunner Andrea Newman confirmed that Daniel Kyri’s exit doesn’t close the door on his return to Chicago Fire Season 14 or beyond. Speaking to TV Insider, she said, “He’s there at the beginning of the season, and we hope to see him back at some point later in the season. This is what we do on Chicago Fire. We’ll say our goodbyes, and then we’ll see people again. And he’s certainly very much still in the lives of all of us.”

Although there are strong chances of his return, when he will appear next in Chicago Fire remains to be seen.
