Dick Van Dyke Says It’d Be Funny If He ‘Doesn’t Make It’ to His 100th Birthday

The legendary actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke is nearly 100 years old now, but his sense of humor remains as fresh as ever. In a recent Vandy High Tea event at the Vandy Manor in Malibu, California, on October 5, 2025, the veteran comedian said it would be funny if he did not make it to his 100th birthday. He turns 100 on December 13, 2025.

Seeing his latest appearance, it is clear that Dick Van Dyke has not lost his sense of humor despite his years. He continues to display the same charm and wit that have defined his career. In the Vandy High Tea Party, which featured songs and stories from Dick, Arlene, and Dick’s singing group, Dick Van Dyke and The Vantastix, the comedian entertained the audience with his charm and humor. He also joked about his upcoming milestone birthday. He made light of turning another year older in his signature humorous style.

“That’s right. I’m not officially a hundred until December,” he said (via PEOPLE). “It’d be funny if I didn’t make it,” he added jokingly.

Later in the same event, Van Dyke took some time to reflect. “I brag sometimes about how I made it to a hundred, and the truth is, if I had known I was going to live this long, I would’ve taken better care of myself,” he admitted. “And it is frustrating because I don’t know what I did right. Other than her [Arlene], I didn’t do anything right,” he added.

During this event, Dick Van Dyke also made the day of a young fan who was in attendance. Dick sang Happy Birthday for the six-year-old fan, who came to see him for his birthday. He also led a sing-along of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Dick Van Dyke remains one of the most celebrated comedians of all time. His achievements include six Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and a Tony Award. He has also been honored with the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2013 and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2020.

He has remained active into the later part of his career, with his last Daytime Emmy win coming in 2024.
