Hilaria Baldwin Recalls Husband Alec’s Response to Her Ultimatum About His Daughter

Hilaria Baldwin recalled an incident when Alec Baldwin was tricked off after she gave him an ultimatum about his daughter, Ireland Baldwin. She said that “family is the most important thing,” and if the ultimatum hadn’t worked out, she wouldn’t have stayed with him.

Hilaria Baldwin opened up about her relationship with her step-daughter, Ireland Baldwin, on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. She recalled the conversation she had with Alec Baldwin about how important Ireland’s decision was in shaping their relationship.

“I told Alec before I met her, I said, ‘If she doesn’t like me, I’m not gonna stay because I can’t hurt a family,’” Hilaria recalled. “And he gets mad. He’s all mad at me then. He gets mad at me when I say it now.”

Hilaria emphasized that she has always respected Ireland’s relationship with her biological mother, Kim Basinger. “Always be respectful about her mom,” she said.

And when it came to certain situations, she understood that she was just a guest between Alec, Kim, and Ireland. “If I’m welcomed in, wonderful, I’m there. But I have to be strong enough on my own and not come in and, you know, mark my territory and all that kind of stuff,” Hilaria explained.

Despite her initial hesitations, Hilaria and Ireland have bonded over the years. “Ireland has really seen me. [She] has seen how much I care about her dad and her family and her,” Hilaria explained.

Hilaria continued to talk about how she balanced her responsibilities as a stepmother. She said, “It’s also, you know, walking that line of being a stepmom, you know? And coming into her life when she’s 15, 16 years old. And I was just always very clear that I’m there to be supportive when she needs me.”

Hilaria admitted that Ireland was “extraordinarily welcoming” of her “right at the beginning.” She added, “I was very prepared to have it be, you know, we have had a great few months together, and I’m gonna go.”
