He initially shared details about newly co-owning an Australian sailing team with his Deadpool and Wolverine co-star. Ryan Reynolds jokes about Hugh Jackman’s gambling
Reynolds appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently and spoke about his and Jackman’s decision to own an Australian sailing team. The conversation then shifted to Reynolds poking fun at Jackman’s gambling habit. He said, “Hugh thought it would be fun to… to… to be a part of, to own part ownership of Team Australia. And I think it was to put a dent in some of his gambling debts.” Kimmel asked him whether Jackman is a gambler. Reynolds replied, “Oh, he’s got a real f***ing problem.” Kimmel reconfirmed once again, and Reynolds said, “Oh, God… it’s not even like sexy. It’s the slots.”
He further added, “He’s just like…Sits there with like a menthol cigarette, and he’s just yanking that sucker, and it’s just pure sadness. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So, we’re… we’re going to pay some of that off.” The host then asked Reynolds whether Jackman knew how to sail. He replied that he thinks that he’s afraid of water. “So, I…I don’t know. We’re going to really put that to the test. I also am not sure he’s from Australia,” the Ghosted star added.
In June 2025, Reynolds and Jackman became co-owners of Bonds Flying Roos, which competes in SailGP. In a statement, the duo expressed their enthusiasm for their new sports venture. It read, “We’re incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure. Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country as well as being an avid fan of sailing. He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride. Apologies in advance to Australia. No comment on whether we’re writing this in our Bonds.
