George Clooney and Amal Clooney tied the knot in Venice, Italy, in 2014, surrounded by loved ones. They became parents to twins Alexander and Ella in 2017. The couple celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary on September 27. Now, the actor has shared his secret to a successful marriage. He spoke about it during an interview with PEOPLE at the “Jay Kelly” premiere on September 29.
The 64-year-old star said having the right partner is the key to a great married life. “The greatest lesson I learned is to marry the right person, which I did,” he shared. He added, “it has been nothing but an honor and a pleasure to be married to my wife.”
The filmmaker proposed to the human rights lawyer in April 2014. In 2015, speaking about his lady love with the outlet, George shared how his partner changed his life for good. “All I know is that it sort of changed everything in terms of what I thought my future — my personal future — was going to be,” he admitted.
Even Amal, on her part, spoke very fondly about the actor at his AFI Life Achievement Award, saying that she met George when she was 35 years old and soon realized she “would never want to be with anyone else.” She even considers herself “lucky” to have the actor as her life partner.
After being named TIME’s 2022 Women of the Year, the lawyer said their “Marriage has been wonderful.” She praised George, saying, “I have in my husband a partner who is incredibly inspirational and supportive.” Amal confessed that she feels “so lucky to have found a great love in my life and to be a mother — this is how I get my balance.”
