Star Wars rumor hints that Star Wars: Starfighter will launch a trilogy and feature a major cameo designed to set up its sequel. The project marks a new chapter in the franchise, introducing fresh characters and expanding the galaxy’s timeline.
Star Wars: Starfighter to begin a trilogy with key cameo
Reports state that Star Wars: Starfighter will begin a new trilogy and include a major cameo to set up its sequel. The rumor originated from insider account @MyTimeToShineHello, which stated, “Lucasfilm’s plan is for Starfighter to be the start of it’s own trilogy. There is a big cameo to set that sequel.” Shawn Levy directs the film, which stars Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, and Mia Goth, and it will release on May 28, 2027.
Reports suggest the story unfolds five years after The Rise of Skywalker, though plot details remain unofficial. Jon Rocha claimed Gosling’s character protects the Force-sensitive son of a Jedi portrayed by Amy Adams. Flynn Gray plays the child, while Gosling’s non-Jedi character takes on the mission of keeping him safe. The Den of Nerds account on X added that the boy’s journey may lead to Rey Skywalker.
Fans continue to speculate about Daisy Ridley’s involvement, though no one has confirmed it. The Hollywood Reporterpreviously highlighted her as the future of the Star Wars franchise, which fueled theories that her Jedi Academy could anchor upcoming stories. Fans compare this rumored storyline to The Mandalorian, where Luke Skywalker receives Grogu.
Levy reflected on the opportunity, saying, “From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true” (via StarWars.com). Levy produces the project with Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, Ryan Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen. Jonathan Tropper writes the script.
Lucasfilm promotes Star Wars: Starfighter as “an all-new standalone adventure” that explores new ground in the galaxy. The film also connects back to the sequel trilogy through its rumored cameo.
