The Punisher Could Battle Another Spider-Man 4 Villain Besides Scorpion

A new rumor teases a dangerous conflict in Spider-Man: Brand New Day as Jon Bernthal returns as the Punisher. With filming underway and the movie slated for release next summer, reports suggest Frank Castle will go head-to-head with a powerful criminal figure, adding fresh tension to Marvel’s street-level story.

Spider-Man 4’s Punisher rumored to be in conflict with Tombstone

Insider Daniel Richtman took to X (formerly Twitter) and reported, “[The] Punisher and Tombstone will be in direct conflict,” pointing toward the crime boss playing a central role in the movie’s street-level storyline. This rumor adds to earlier reports that Peter Parker, no longer an Avenger, will face several new enemies in a darker chapter of his life.

Tombstone’s presence may connect to a larger gang war in New York after Wilson Fisk’s possible downfall in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. With Frank Castle continuing his war on crime, Tombstone could become a major obstacle for both Punisher and Spider-Man. The movie also reportedly includes villains such as Scorpion, Tarantula, Boomerang, and Ramrod. Rumors suggest a Venom Symbiote subplot may involve Mac Gargan.

Reports state that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature the Hulk and the supernatural entity Shathra. Spider-Man faces Punisher’s extreme methods while struggling with his own responsibility. Speculation also places Punisher in a clash with Ma Gnucci in an upcoming Marvel special that may connect to the film’s storyline. The Department of Damage Control continues its presence in the MCU, returning after Spider-Man: No Way Home and Ms. Marvel.

Destin Daniel Cretton directs the film from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Tom Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker, starring alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, and Tramell Tillman.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures will release Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters on July 31, 2026.
