Emily Fairn talks House of Guinness’ big inheritance twist
Emily Fairn has shed light on the dramatic inheritance twist in House of Guinness, highlighting how it shapes her character’s development.
The Netflix drama, created by Steven Knight, explores the complex aftermath of Benjamin Guinness’ death and the struggles his children face over the family’s empire. Fairn portrays Anne, who is largely left out of the will alongside her brother, Benjamin.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Fairn said that the will-reading is a pivotal turning point. She explained, “It’s one of those moments, I think for both of them, is the lesson you don’t really want to have to learn, which is they didn’t get what they wanted, but actually it ended up so much better for them.”
The actress elaborated that if Anne had simply received wealth and a luxurious lifestyle, she would never have taken the initiative to help others. “I think if [Anne] had just been given a load of money and a big posh house to live in, she would never have set up the trust and would never have helped all of these people,” she said. Instead, the challenge forces Anne to have a “purpose” and bring positive change for the future generations of the Guinness women.
Reflecting on her character’s evolution, Fairn said, “So at the time, it’s so unfortunate for her, and you see on mine and on fiance’s faces, the realization that you have nothing and what are you going to do with your life.” The actress added that the setback ultimately helps Anne to lead a “much better life.”
