A new Doctor Strange 3 rumor from an industry insider has sparked discussion online, hinting at possible changes behind the camera. The claim quickly spread across social media, fueling speculation about Marvel’s next steps.
Sam Raimi rumored to have talked about a different Marvel project
Rumors claim that Sam Raimi, best known for directing the original Spider-Man trilogy and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, discussed a new project with Marvel Studios. According to a report by scooper @MyTimeToShineHello on September 25, 2025, “Sam Raimi had talks with Marvel about doing another project for them, not just Doctor Strange 3.” The claim suggests that Marvel remains interested in working with the director beyond the Doctor Strange franchise.
Raimi previously expressed interest in returning to Marvel when asked in 2024. “I love 90% of the Marvel heroes that I’ve read in the great Stan Lee Marvel Universe comic books,” he said. “I would love to work with Marvel again. They haven’t reasonably asked me to. I hope they had a good experience with me. They haven’t asked me yet. I hope they do.” (via Screengeek)
Around the same time, he also addressed speculation about Spider-Man 4 while speaking with CBR and said, “Well, I haven’t heard about that yet. I did read that, but I’m not actually working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with current Spider-Man [movies]… I don’t know that they’re going to go back to me.” Notably, Destin Daniel Cretton is directing Spider-Man 4, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The filmmaker was previously linked in rumors to other Marvel projects, such as Avengers: Secret Wars and Blade. While he directed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Raimi’s association with comic book horror has also fueled speculation about a potential Midnight Sons project. But as per reports, Sam Raimi is not directing Doctor Strange 3.
