Taylor Swift wanted a Super Bowl deal that reflected her ‘value,’ says source

For years, fans have eagerly anticipated Taylor Swift’s performance at the Super Bowl. The anticipation increased this year after rumors of her deal with the NFL hit the headlines. However, Rob Shuter’s exclusive report on Substack revealed that Swift turned down the offer after the NFL refused to meet her demands.

The NFL reportedly does not pay the Super Bowl performers, and Swift was not okay with it. She demanded that the NFL let her reserve full ownership of her performance while also asking for slots to advertise her own projects during the show. The NFL, however, did not agree to the terms. A music executive told Shuter, “She wasn’t asking for favors, she was asking for respect.”

The insider emphasized Swift’s global influence, stating, “Taylor knows her worth. She knows the kind of ratings she brings, the global attention she commands.” They concluded, “She wasn’t about to hand that over for free.” As such, the free performance was “part of the fight.” As an insider put it, “They expect the biggest artists in the world to do it for ‘exposure,’” explaining, “Taylor Swift doesn’t need exposure.”

The insider highlighted Swift’s priorities, stating, “She wanted a deal that reflected her value.” A third insider pointed out that Swift “doesn’t need the Super Bowl,” adding, “The Super Bowl absolutely needs her.” They stressed, “Without Taylor, it’s just another halftime show.”

Whether the world gets to see Taylor Swift’s performance at the Super Bowl is a question of the future, but for now, the deal is reportedly not on the table.
