The exaggerated curtsy Meghan Markle acted out on Netflix, and Prince Harry’s reaction to it, is back in the spotlight. In the clip, Markle playfully recalled the time she first met Queen Elizabeth II. The moment shows Markle recounting when Harry had told her she would soon meet his grandmother, admitting she was surprised by the protocols. She played it for laughs, dramatically hunching forward, but Harry reportedly didn’t appear quite as amused as Markle.
Expert says Prince Harry’s body language shifted when Meghan Markle mocked the royal curtsy
Jesús Enrique Rosas spoke to The Mirror, analyzing Prince Harry’s reaction to Meghan Markle’s exaggerated curtsy on camera. The duchess compared it to something out of the dinner theater “Medieval Times, Dinner and Tournament.” At the time, the clip stirred backlash, splitting viewers between finding the demonstration lighthearted and disrespectful.
As for Harry, he was seemingly “serious and maybe even angry” at Markle’s mockery. Rosas pointed out that “there’s no connection, no empathy in him.” He added, “Notice what happens with his throat, he is swallowing at that moment.”
It wasn’t obvious at a glance, but, according to Rosas, Harry’s flushed face gave away what he was really feeling, claiming, “He is looking at Meghan and he displays contempt.” The expert added, “A split second after that, he looks away and presses his jaw,” interpreting it as “covert anger.”
Additionally, Rosas explained, “If he was ashamed, he would have smiled a bit more, or [had] a nervous laughter. But he knew what was coming and he couldn’t stand it.” The expert thus concluded that Harry was uncomfortable with the way his wife dismissed royal formality.
According to Rosas, it may have been a playful reenactment, but the duke’s reaction proved that the weight of royal history doesn’t disappear easily. All in all, the expert’s breakdown adds another layer to a marriage that has always been under scrutiny.
