Tom Brady is facing criticism following the controversial “kick the dog” comment during the Fox Sports broadcast of the Cowboys-Chicago Bears game on September 21. The former NFL star’s cryptic statement drew attention from viewers and sparked widespread discussion on social media.

During the fourth quarter, Dallas wide receiver George Pickens appeared visibly upset on the sidelines. Looking at the situation, Brady remarked, “And Picks is not happy, yeah, those moments can be … like the dog at home. Kick the dog, throw the helmet, whatever it takes.”

Despite the lack of reaction on-air, fans quickly turned to social media to question the meaning behind Brady’s words, with many expressing concern over the comparison. One user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Tom Brady comparing a player slamming his helmet in anger to kicking your dog at home isn’t the color commentary I was expecting.”

Another user questioned, “‘Kick the dog, throw the helmet, whatever it takes.’ Is Tom Brady abusing dogs in his home??” A third person wrote, “Kick the dog? What’s wrong with you, Tom Brady? We don’t harm or encourage violence against animals, please do better.” A fourth comment read, “Are we all really just going to ignore the fact that @TomBrady just tried to compare slamming a helmet down out of frustration to kicking your dog at home? Absolutely disgusting!”

This incident comes in Brady’s second season with Fox Sports, following his retirement from the NFL in 2024. Since joining the network in September 2024, Brady has taken on the role of lead analyst, providing color commentary on NFL broadcasts.

As of now, he has not publicly addressed the backlash from this remark.
