Travis Kelce clashed with Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid during a heated sideline exchange in Sunday night’s 22-9 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

The incident unfolded in the second quarter after Kelce caught a pass and lost two yards. The play set up a 40-yard field goal attempt, which Harrison Butker missed. Cameras captured Reid confronting Kelce as he returned to the bench. Reid bumped the tight end with his shoulder as they exchanged words. Kelce shook his head, fired back a response, and walked away.

The two have clashed publicly before. During Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers, Kelce bumped Reid while shouting after a fumble. Earlier in September 2025, the NFL fined Kelce $14,491 for making an obscene gesture during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Kansas City lost that contest 20-17. Despite the confrontation, the Chiefs controlled the game against the Giants. They led 9-6 at halftime and extended their lead in the second half. Kelce recorded four catches on seven targets for 26 yards.

Reid addressed the sideline confrontation at halftime on NBC, stating, “That’s OK, we need some juice, so that’s good.” After the game, he expanded on his comments to reporters, saying, “I mean, he’s a passionate guy and I love that part. I’ve been through a lot of things with him, so that’s all part of it. I love that he loves to play the game, that’s what I love. And it’s an emotional game, so I’ll take it” (via New York Times).

On a Monday media call, Reid added, “Is he frustrated or not frustrated? Well, he’s seen how the offense works, and so when things aren’t going the right way, he’s very aware of that. He wants to make sure he gets that point across to the guys, and so he does that. I’m OK with that part.”
