Tom Holland’s Stunt Goes Wrong on Spider-Man Set As He Suffers Concussion

The friendly neighborhood Spider-Man had a tough day on set. Tom Holland, who’s reprising his role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, suffered a concussion after a stunt accident in Glasgow. The mishap briefly halted production on one of Sony and Marvel’s most anticipated blockbusters.

Tom Holland was hospitalized on Friday after a stunt sequence that didn’t go as planned and injured him. He was treated for a mild concussion and is now taking a short break from Spider-Man filming as a precaution. While the incident raised concerns, according to Deadline sources, the production confirmed that no one else was hurt.

Sony, the studio behind the film, will meet on Monday to decide how to adjust the shooting schedule. For now, production remains paused, though Holland is expected to return within a few days.

The stakes for Spider-Man: Brand New Day couldn’t be higher. The last Spidey entry, 2021’s No Way Home, became Sony’s biggest hit ever, earning $1.91 billion worldwide. With Marvel and Sony co-producing, the upcoming one is also the only Marvel feature slated before Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026, making it an essential release for both studios.

Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, takes over directing duties from Jon Watts. The movie pairs Holland with a star-studded lineup, including Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, and Jon Bernthal. Even newcomers Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman join the ranks. Michael Mando also returns as Scorpion, setting up new arcs for the franchise.

Just weeks ago, Tom Holland expressed his enthusiasm about filming in real-world locations after No Way Home was shot primarily on soundstages. He told Deadline: “Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

Despite the unexpected pause, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still slated to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.
