Reviews for Him, the latest Jordan Peele-produced movie, are out, and critics don’t seem impressed with it. Additionally, the Rotten Tomatoes score for Him is also in contrast with Peele’s own directed movies, such as his directorial debut, Get Out.
Critics aren’t pleased with Him in reviews
Him follows the story of Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers), who is gaining fame as a quarterback in the world of football. However, his life takes a dark turn when Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans) “offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound,” according to the movie’s website. Helmed by Justin Tipping, it has failed to get a good reception from critics.
Jonathan Sim of ComingSoon wrote, “Him is a nothing movie that gave us nothing. If you’re looking for a touchdown, you won’t find it here. This project is a rare miss for Monkeypaw, as this is one of the weakest horror movies of the year.”
Furthermore, Bilge Ebiri from Vulture wrote, “The movie at times plays like a high-budget student film.” He further stated that the movie tries to “impress us with technique. And it does, at least until we realize that there’s not much else going on.”
Meanwhile, Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter stated that the movie “certainly tries to be disturbing. Too hard, in fact.” He added that the second half of the movie is “more gonzo than chilling.”
William Bibbiani of The Wrap asserted that most of the movie has already been shown in the trailer and wrote, “You learn about as much from the movie as you do from the trailer, and the trailer is free to watch and saves you a lot of time.” While he commended Marlon Wayans for “bringing his A-game,” he stated that “almost everybody else gives this game away.”
Moreover, Julian Roman of MovieWeb wrote, “This could be the worst film I’ve seen in 2025…The Jordan Peele-produced football horror thriller bashes the senses with gruesome imagery, mind-numbing strobe effects, and shaky cinematography in an ugly narrative.”
What is Him’s Rotten Tomatoes score?
Him has turned out to be a disaster on Rotten Tomatoes. So far, this Jordan Peele-produced film has garnered a 29% rotten score on the Tomatometer, based on 31 critic reviews. However, as more reviews come in, the Justin Tipping-directed film is likely to follow a similar trajectory in terms of reviews.
Needless to say, this Rotten Tomatoes score won’t match any of the critically acclaimed movies that Peele directed. For instance, Get Out (2017) received a 98% score on the Tomatometer, while 2019’s Us achieved a 93% score. Additionally, Peele’s 2022 film, Nope, scored 83% on the Tomatometer.
Featuring Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox, Marlon Wayans, Jim Jefferies, and more, Him comes out in theaters on September 19, 2025.
