Cardi B talks to Kelly Rowland about navigating heartbreak and career together

In a candid conversation with Kelly Rowland, Cardi B subtly explained the aftermath of her divorce from Offset. As the rapper prepared to release her second studio album, “Am I the Drama?,” she confided in Rowland about her emotional distress during the ordeal. Moreover, Cardi also confessed she turned to Shakira for advice, learning how to move forward from a heartbreak.

Besides emotional distress, the rapper revealed that the heartbreak left her creatively paralyzed. Speaking about how fame magnifies personal struggles, Cardi admitted that personal pain has affected her ability to create. She shared, “When I’m angry, I can’t record. When I’m sad, I can’t record. Like, I cannot think. I can’t function.” At one point, Cardi recalled “just crying and crying and crying” when she traveled to Los Angeles to finish her album.

The Grammy winner confessed how the emotional spiral lasted for months. She revealed, “I even talked to Shakira, and I was like ‘How do you get over this funk?’” Shakira, for her part, advised patience. She reassured Cardi that it takes time to heal, even if the experience was all-consuming. Even so, the rapper admitted, “I felt like I was withdrawing love,” adding, “I can’t eat. I can’t sleep. I can’t think. I can’t work.”

Rowland then asked how Cardi managed to push through. The musician thus explained, “You just know that it’s done in you. It just dies in you. But when it dies, it’s very painful.” The rapper’s comments have come after her divorce from Offset, the father of her three children. Now, as Cardi returns to making music, her interview showed how she remained unapologetically herself even in the face of heartbreak and grief.
