Hollywood legend Michael Keaton has weighed in on the death of Charlie Kirk at the Investigative Reporters and Editors’ 50th anniversary gala. Keaton also spoke about gun violence and how it claimed Charlie’s life, despite the activist advocating for guns.

Michael Keaton spoke in detail about Charlie Kirk’s death on Monday night.

“Before we start to get into the meat of this thing, I’m going to take a minute to say that, regardless of how I probably — not probably — have disagreed with many things he said, Charlie Kirk leaves behind two kids and a wife,” Keaton said, emphasizing his stance but also emphasizing the empathy he had for the dead, “You gotta remember that.” (via Variety)

Keaton added, “Because in the end, shooting people will never answer anything. And the irony that he was killed with a gun is unbelievable.”

Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at a TPUSA public debate event on the Utah Valley University campus. What followed was national mourning and a long manhunt for Charlie’s killer. The event gained international attention as celebrities came forward with their tributes.

Keaton’s stance was more neutral compared to many on this issue. There have been several debates about Kirk since his death, primarily because of some of his controversial viewpoints.

Keaton was not the only one to speak about Kirk at the IRE gala. Others also paid their respects to Kirk in this event, including journalist Scott Pelley, who claimed Charlie’s murder was “blood on the First Amendment.”

Kirk’s death continues to divide people across the world. A suspect has already been arrested for the assassination, Tyler Robinson, with FBI director Kash Patel claiming that Robinson’s DNA was found at the crime scene.
