Bryan Cranston Reveals What Happened When He Tried Shrooms

Though Bryan Cranston may have drowned the world in drugs as Walter White on perhaps one of the greatest shows ever made, Breaking Bad, the actor did not seem to have a lot of drug experience outside the screen.

Cranston revealed that he tried mushrooms for the first time on Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s widely acclaimed The Studio. Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel, the actor revealed what happened on his first shrooms trip.

Bryan Cranston talks about his first shrooms experience

When speaking to Jimmy Kimmel, the subject eventually arrived at Cranston trying shrooms. The veteran actor told the Talk Show host that he actually had not tried the psychedelic drug till this time on The Studio.

“I hadn’t until The Studio came along,” he told Kimmel, “So I’m playing this character who is wiped out, and I had never had any experience in that. Not many drugs at all, as a matter of fact. So I didn’t know really how to behave. I was asking Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz, ‘You guys are huge druggies. What can you tell me?’ And he said,’ You would start out with microdosing.’”

Ultimately, Cranston was explained the concept of microdosing, and he decided to try it for himself.

“We all decided to go to the Sphere to see the Grateful Dead,” Cranston recalled, “If God wasn’t telling me to do microdosing, what was he telling me? So Catherine O’Hara and I were clutching each other like, ‘You going to try it? We’ll try it together.’ We were nervous, and Ike Barinholtz was our drug dealer. Can I say that? He said, ‘I’ll take care of you.’”

They ended up consuming a tiny dose of shrooms in tiny chocolates. But to his disappointment, nothing really happened to him.

Cranson revealed, “I took it. Nothing,…I didn’t feel anything. It felt like maybe I took three sips of wine. It was nothing. Nothing! … Now I’m angry.”

So, the Breaking Bad star’s first shrooms experience ended up being anticlimactic for him. Though he did portray the character of Griffin Mill on a heavy dose of mushrooms to perfection.

The series will go in with high hopes at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. The show has also been renewed for season 2.
