Travis Kelce Felt Like ‘S***’ After Hitting Xavier Worthy’s Shoulder

Travis Kelce addressed the incident involving Xavier Worthy during the Kansas City Chiefs’ 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil. In the Chiefs’ first series, Kelce collided with Worthy when their routes converged, causing the wide receiver to dislocate his shoulder. Since then, Worthy has not returned to the game, and his recovery timeline remains uncertain.

On the New Heights podcast, Kelce told his brother and co-host Jason Kelce, “I owe my guy big time, man, X knows it. I felt like s***, I could barely even f***in’ play the rest of that first half, man. But we girded up once I found out that he was in better spirits than I imagined.” He emphasized, “I wasn’t ready, that first drive, I ran into one of my guys and offed him out of the game. I literally took one of my players out.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed Worthy’s injury status on Sept. 8, telling Sports Radio 810 WHB, “He’s rehabbing and working his shoulder, we’ll see where it goes, day by day.” Worthy, a second-year player from Texas, had been a starting wide receiver for the team before the collision.

Kelce, now in his 13th season, said he accepts responsibility. “I just gotta be better, man, I’m 13 years in the league there’s no excuse for me running into my own guys like that and being able to play fast and help.” He also described the moment as “one of the most frustrating parts” of the game.

Kelce praised Worthy’s potential, saying he is “one of our best players” and a step away from “being one of the best receivers in the National Football League.” This is not the first time the Chiefs faced a friendly fire setback; last year, quarterback Patrick Mahomes accidentally injured Rashee Rice against the Chargers, ending Rice’s season.
