MrBeast has once again caught the attention of fans around the globe with a bizarre announcement, where he claimed to have bought the NFL. He appeared alongside the organization’s commissioner, Roger Goodell, and revealed it in a press conference. This revelation has left fans confused and wondering if it is even true.
Can the NFL really be bought by an individual? Here’s what we know about it.
Did MrBeast buy NFL?
Despite leaving most of the world confused, no, MrBeast does not seem to have bought the NFL.
It all appeared to be real because the 27-year-old YouTuber appeared alongside the organization’s commissioner, Roger Goodell, for the supposed announcement.
Goodell said in the clip that was shared on YouTube, “Today marks [a] historic first.” He continued, “The NFL is now under the ownership of one individual, Jimmy Donaldson, Mr. Beast.”
Mr Beast took over at this point and added, “That is right, I officially own the NFL.” He continued, “I think it’s time for some changes. So, for my very first change, we are going to be changing the roster from 53 players to 54, and giving that new roster spot to a YouTuber.” The video further showed some YouTubers, like iShowSpeed, as possible contenders being drafted into the NFL teams.
They ultimately indicated that MrBeast had not bought the NFL. Rather, this video was an attempt to promote YouTube getting the broadcast rights of September 5’s NFL game. The Los Angeles Chargers will face the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday, which will be available to watch for free on YouTube.
The NFL actually belongs to over 537,000 stakeholders, and it is unlikely that a single person will be able to own it. Though MrBeast is one of the wealthiest content creators in the world, he does not actually own the league.
So, this was just an elaborate gimmick that seemingly served its purpose by capturing the attention of fans all around.
