Unseen footage of David Corenswet’s Superman audition has surfaced on social media, sparking buzz online. Here’s what we know about the tape, the casting process, and the response it has generated.

David Corenswet’s audition tape goes viral

The clip, shared widely on social media, shows David Corenswet reading an earlier version of a scene where Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, interviews Superman. The footage highlights his ability to shift seamlessly between Superman and Clark Kent. The actor secured the coveted role after competing against more than 400 hopefuls for James Gunn’s Superman film.

“You better be blown away by David Corenswet’s audition. This dude just oozes that Superman vibe,” one user wrote on X.

Another remarked, “You can always tell who went to Juilliard and who didn’t. Corenswet is such a theatre kid and it’s so great. He is channeling [Christopher] Reeve so much here it’s wild.”

A third post read, “Sorry to everyone else who auditioned because it couldn’t have been anyone else.”

Director James Gunn has echoed that sentiment. Speaking to GQ, Gunn said, “From the very beginning, he was the guy to beat.”

He told Entertainment Weekly that Corenswet’s chemistry with Brosnahan was the deciding factor: “We mixed and matched these different actors and actresses to find out not only who was the best Clark and who was the best Lois, but who was the best ‘Clois,’ who was the best together. I do think that David was the best Clark, Rachel was the best Lois — but they also had the most chemistry together.”

Corenswet himself reflected on embodying Superman at a pivotal point in the hero’s journey. “I had the same ideas about Superman, that he’s quite reserved and has ultimate control over his emotions and his reactions to things,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I was very excited when James said all of that is true about Superman, but we get to meet him in this moment where those things are least true.”
