Snopp Dogg comments on LGBTQ+ representation in movies

Snoop Dogg’s comments on LGBTQ+ storylines appearing in children’s films has garnered significant attention. During an appearance on the It’s Giving podcast, the rapper explained that he now feels “scared to go to the movies” because he believes LGBTQ+ representation is becoming more prominent.

The musician reflected on an experience from 2022 when he attended a showing of Pixar’s Lightyear with his grandson. The film features Alisha Hawthorne, a central character who is portrayed as being married to another woman and raising a child with her. Snopp Dogg said, “Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’”

He added, “‘Oh sh–, I didn’t come in for this sh–. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.’” As the conversation continued, the child pressed the issue further. The rapper explained that he had no response, telling the podcast hosts that the situation “f—– me up.” I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of s— that I don’t have an answer for,” he added.

Reflecting on the moment, Snoop Dogg remarked that the storyline “threw me for a loop.” He added, “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

Following the release of the podcast, his remarks quickly circulated on social media and sparked widespread backlash. One user commented on X (formerly Twitter), “A homophobe once asked me why it was called a phobia. Wish I could show him this clip of a former gang member scared of a gay cartoon couple.”
