The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus‘ eldest son, Mingus Reedus, is facing assault and harassment charges following an alleged physical altercation. The 25-year-old model has pleaded not guilty as police continue their investigation.
Here are all the details.
Mingus Reedus arrested over assault charges, claims report
Police arrested Mingus Lucien Reedus, the son of actor Norman Reedus and model Helena Christensen, on Saturday, August 23, in New York City. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) charged Reedus with harassment, criminal obstruction of breathing, and assault.
The NYPD took Reedus into custody following an emergency response to a report of an ongoing assault. Upon arriving at the scene, the police “observed a 33-year-old female with minor injuries to [her] neck and leg.” The police department expanded, saying, “EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.” (via People)
Formal investigations are underway as Reedus faces legal charges. Priya Chaudhry, the attorney representing the 25-year-old model, told USA Today, “Mingus is presumed innocent and has pled not guilty. As the facts emerge, his innocence will become clear.”
Chaudhry also believes that it “speaks volumes” that “they chose to charge Mingus with misdemeanors or less.” She further stated, “Equally important, the judge released Mingus on his own recognizance, with neither bail nor supervision. That significant judicial decision amplifies the volume.”
This marks Mingus Reedus’ second time landing in legal trouble. In September 2021, the model was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old woman. The incident took place at the San Gennaro festival in New York City. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, claimed that Mingus had physically assaulted her during a verbal confrontation.
Reedus stated that he had acted in self-defense, saying, “I was reacting to them swarming me and was afraid for the safety of my group.” Furthermore, his attorney at the time, Isabelle Kirshner, maintained that the allegations were “baseless.” Reedus accepted a plea deal, and the case was resolved the following year.
