Sydney Sweeney is perhaps the most popular name around the world in the past few weeks, thanks to the highly-publicized American Eagle jeans controversy, but shortly before that, the actress was embroiled in another controversy involving Dr. Squatch’s limited-edition soap infused with her “bathwater.”
Now, the actress has hit back at her critics. But it seems that X users are not a big fan of her defense.
Fans react to Sydney Sweeney’s comment on bathwater soap
Sydney Sweeney called out the backlash she faced over selling soap infused with her bathwater in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal. The Euphoria star said that it was mainly girls who criticized this marketing gimmick.
She told WSJ, “It’s important to have a finger on the pulse of what people are saying, because everything is a conversation with the audience.” She added about the backlash, “It was mainly the girls making comments about it, which I thought was really interesting. They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.”
But fans hit back at her defense, with some even calling out her work in her field. A post by Pop Base became a ground for discussion on X after Sydney Sweeney’s interview. One user replied to Sweeney’s comment saying, “This is incredibly stupid she actually thinks “the girls” are just being unreasonably jealous of her as if she wasn’t setting feminism back hundreds of years,” while another user said, “She set us women back 100 years and should be ashamed.”
Another user added, “What does Sydney Sweeney do outside of having good jeans and selling soap? I’m not throwing shade, I’ve genuinely only heard of her through advertising controversies. Must be frustrating for some celebs to have no/little recognition for their actual work.”
With the responses to Sweeney’s defense, it is quite clear that there is a huge majority that is not impressed with all the recent things the actress has done.
The noise surrounding the American Eagle jeans ad has dimmed a little. But it seems unlikely that Sydney Sweeney’s name will die down soon.
