The rising global pop sensation, KATSEYE, has entered similar territory as Sydney Sweeney, as it joined Gap’s new jeans campaign, Better in Denim. The Anyone but You actress’ recent jeans ad with American Eagle sparked controversy due to its tagline. Now, after Beyoncé entered the arena with a collaboration with Levi’s, KATSEYE has also joined in. KATSEYE is a global girl group that has taken over the music scene with hits like “Touch,” “Gnarly,” and their latest release, “Gabriela.”
Sydney Sweeney has new competition when it comes to jeans
Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle jeans ad has new competition in the form of girl group KATSEYE. KATSEYE recently collaborated with Gap for their new Better in Denim Fall campaign.
Apart from rocking bold fits by the popular clothing brand, the group shook a leg to the iconic 2000s song “Milkshake” by Kelis. The dance number was choreographed by Robbie Blue. While speaking to Billboard about their campaign with Gap and performing to “Milkshake,” group member Megan said, “It’s so bold…and very obviously 2000s. We really wanted to be confident, but also look and feel good. It was so much fun. [Robbie] was behind the camera giving us notes and critiques, but at the same time, he was like, ‘Yes girls, get it!’ Hyping us up the entire time.”
To celebrate the campaign with KATSEYE, Gap has also released a limited-edition hoodie with the KATSEYE logo on it.
Speaking about the campaign and KATSEYE, Gap CEO Mark Breitbard stated, “Gap continues to build on its legacy of bridging generations by spotlighting global talent and celebrating self-expression through music, dance, and denim. Partnering with KATSEYE was a natural fit; we share a bold, expressive, and inclusive point of view. ‘Better in Denim’ is the best expression of who the brand is today — fresh, relevant, original, and undeniably Gap.”
Following the release of the campaign clip, fans began storming social media to draw comparisons between it and Sweeney’s jeans ad. One X (formerly Twitter) user noted, “Sydney Sweeney could never.” While another X user wrote, “now this is how you do a damn jeans adddddd iktr.”
