Cheese Recalled Over Another Life-Threatening Listeria Contamination

A recall for a brand of cheese has been issued by the FDA over listeria contamination. This life-threatening bacteria was behind recalls for peaches and ready-to-eat pasta bowls this year, the latter of which has caused six deaths so far. In the official recall report published on November 15, 2025, the FDA reminds consumers that Listeria monocytogenes “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

Specifically, the affected cheese is called Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar cheese produced by Face Rock Creamery. The company has voluntarily recalled 16 6-oz. units of the cheese with a Use-By Date of November 4, 2026. Photos of the product and its packaging can be found in the official report.

The environmental sample taken by the FDA of the processing area where the cheese was packaged tested positive for listeria. While the finished product has not tested positive for any contaminants, the company is recalling the cheese out of caution. It is committed to working with regulatory authorities on the recall.

The Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar was exclusively sold at Face Rock Creamery’s flagship store in Bandon, Oregon. The company says that 16 units of the cheese were sold between November 10 and November 13. The UPC code for the cheddar is 8 512222 00547 8.

Face Rock Creamery recommends that customers of the affected cheese either dispose of the product or return it to the retail location for a full refund of the purchase price. They can call the company for more information about the recall at 541-347-3223 between 9 AM and 4 PM PT between Monday and Friday or send an email to info@facerockcreamery.com.

The FDA notes that a Listeria infection in healthy individuals can cause symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea. More seriously, it can cause stillbirths and miscarriages in pregnant women.
