Halsey Recalls Asking ‘Stupid Questions’ to Sydney Sweeney During Americana Shoot

Halsey, who is currently making her mark in the acting industry, recently gave an interview where she touched upon her experience working with Sydney Sweeney on Americana.

The crime thriller — which serves as the singer’s debut in a feature film — premiered at South by Southwest in 2023. It is scheduled to be released theatrically across the United States later this month.

The project was helmed by Tony Tost, best known for his work in Peacock’s Poker Face. Last year, Halsey appeared in Ti West’s MaXXXine, starring Mia Goth. She is now reportedly developing a dark comedy series, Bloodlust, for Amazon Prime Video.

Halsey recalls how it was working with Sydney Sweeney

In a recent interview at Americana’s Los Angeles premiere, Halsey recounted her experience working on the movie with Sydney Sweeney. She opened up about how the singer-songwriter asked the actress “stupid” questions about the workings of film sets.

The “Colors” artist revealed that she and Sweeney hung out several times during COVID-19. She recounted going hiking with the Euphoria star a few days before getting the call that the latter was starring in Americana.

“It was just really great to have someone to learn from,” Halsey told The Hollywood Reporter. “To ask questions to — the stupid questions you don’t think of.”

She elaborated, “It was my first time on a movie set in a real way; just being like ‘Who do I look at? Who do I listen to? What’s the cool code words I don’t know, the actor lingo?’” “So having someone to ask the stupid questions to was great,” the singer concluded.

Also in the interview, Halsey detailed how she got involved in Americana. “I’d been waiting a really long time,” the “Closer” artist shared. “I’d been really cautiously picky about what I was going to do for my first project for getting into this world, into this space.”

The 30-year-old praised Tony Tost, the crime thriller’s director — who reached out to the former — saying he was “so personable” and “so talented.” She recalled working on the movie during COVID-19, noting it was a “crazy experience.”

Americana premieres in theaters across the United States on August 15, 2025.
