Denise Welch, the mother of Matty Healy, faced questions about Healy’s reported romance with Swift while she appeared on Watch What Happens Live. When asked what her thoughts were on The Tortured Poets Department, Swift’s 11th studio album, Welch responded, “Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but not being her mother-in-law is a role that I’m glad that I lost.” Notably, there are speculations that The Tortured Poets Department is about Healy, and Welch appears to think that as well.
When her initial response left host Andy Cohen surprised, Welch said that she didn’t have “anything against her [Swift] at all.” She continued, “It was tricky. Listen, you’re not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it.”
Welch mentioned that Healy had taken the entire thing well and is now happy with his fiancée, model Gabriella Bechtel, aka Gabbriette. She said, “Matty has taken it all in completely good graces. He’s very happy with his amazing fiancée…Gabbriette, who is gorgeous. So, we’ve moved on.”
