Cardi B Sued for Throwing Mic at a Woman in 2023

Cardi B will face legal consequences for throwing a mic into the audience during a performance at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas. A woman identified as Jane Doe has filed a civil lawsuit accusing the rapper of assault, battery, and negligence. This has sparked curiosity about what happened.

Why did Cardi B get sued?

Cardi B has been hit with a civil lawsuit over a 2023 concert incident where she allegedly injured a woman by throwing a mic into the crowd. The plaintiff, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, is suing the rapper for assault, battery, negligence, and emotional distress. According to the complaint, the fan suffered physical injuries and public humiliation.

The lawsuit refers to an onstage incident in July 2023, when Cardi B performed under extreme heat. Video footage from the day shows the rapper encouraging the audience to splash her with water to help her cool down. In one clip, the rapper is heard saying, “That s— feels good.” (via Entertainment Weekly)

In response, many in the crowd began throwing drinks toward the stage. This included the plaintiff, who says she only splashed a small portion of her beverage toward the rapper. However, Doe says Cardi B responded violently by hurling her microphone directly at her without warning. Security quickly intervened, and the show resumed. However, the moment quickly went viral on social media

In her complaint, Jane Doe says the impact caused physical pain, emotional distress, and long-lasting humiliation. She also claims her mental suffering worsened after the same microphone was later auctioned off for nearly $100,000.

Additionally, the lawsuit names Drai’s Beachclub as a defendant, alleging negligence. The complaint highlights a separate incident at the same venue, where the rapper is said to have thrown a microphone at a DJ. Doe argues that this history should have prompted the venue to take additional safety precautions.

Furthermore, Cardi B’s attorney, Drew Findling, dismissed the claims. “The filing of a civil case against Ms. Almanzar regarding the two-year-old microphone incident is a transparent and pitiful attempted financial shakedown,” he said.
