Pedro Pascal and The Fantastic Four: First Steps cast recently appeared for an interview where his co-star Vanessa Kirby revealed he got an eye infection during filming. In the upcoming Marvel venture directed by Matt Shakman, Pascal essays Reed Richards, AKA Mister Fantastic.
How did Pedro Pascal get an eye infection?
The Fantastic Four: First Steps cast recently appeared on a new episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! hosted by guest host Alan Cumming. He played a True and False game with the group, where he provided statements and the cast had to answer if they were “true” or “false,” via signs.
After the game concluded, Vanessa Kirby reminded Pedro Pascal that he had gotten an eye infection from a makeup brush during Fantastic Four’s filming.
This was not Pascal’s first time getting an eye infection. He had previously contracted one after fans approached him for selfies and used the opportunity to mimic how his Game of Thrones character, Oberyn Martell, died, by placing their thumbs on his eyes. For context, Martell meets his demise in the series after Gregor gouges out his eyes and crushes his skull, following their battle.
The Mandalorian actor referenced the eye infection earlier in the episode, while playing the “True” and “False” game. He confirmed the infection happened in response to Cumming’s statement addressing it.
Pedro Pascal had previously opened up about the eye infection in The Hollywood Reporter’s 2023 Drama Actors Roundtable. “I remember, earlier on, because of ‘Game of Thrones’ and the way my character died … people were super into taking selfies with their thumbs in my eyes,” he stated. The 50-year-old thespian shared that he initially let fans do it as he was “earnest” and “happy” about his character’s success.
“And then I remember getting a bit of an eye infection,” Pascal added. In response, the other actors at the roundtable joked that the eye infection was why he wore glasses — an accessory he typically wears for movie premieres.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
