Rymir Satterthwaite has long claimed that he is the secret son of hip-hop mogul Jay-Z. But his efforts to gain legal recognition have led to controversy and court showings spanning over a decade. Now reportedly 30 years old, Satterthwaite continues to seek acknowledgment from the rapper, whose legal team maintains that his claims have no basis and have already been dismissed in court. So, who is Rymir Satterthwaite?
Who is Rymir Satterthwaite?
Rymir Satterthwaite, who hails from Pennsylvania and now resides in New Jersey, has again started legal proceedings against Jay-Z, asserting that the music icon is his biological father. In a lawsuit filed on May 3, 2025, Rymir claims that Jay-Z had a relationship with his now-deceased mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, in the 1990s, when she was 16. The suit does not seek child support but requests damages for emotional distress, reputational harm, and lack of financial support, along with legal costs. (via E! News)
Outside the courtroom, Rymir Satterthwaite is trying to make a name for himself in the music world, following in the footsteps of the man he believes is his father. On his social media platforms, particularly Instagram, he shares original music, hinting at aspirations of a rap career.
According to Satterthwaite, his mother, Wanda, spent “two decades” trying to establish Jay-Z’s paternity before she died in 2016. A 2016 video shared with Radar Online shows Wanda supporting her son’s case and directly naming Jay-Z as his father. After Wanda’s health declined in 2011, Satterthwaite was primarily cared for by his godmother, Lillie Coley. She is also involved in the current legal filing.
Jay-Z has responded strongly to the latest claims. In court documents filed on June 16 and obtained by E! News, the lawsuit is called the “latest” in what is described as a long pattern of harassment by Rymir Satterthwaite and Lillie Coley. The rapper alleges the claims have been “addressed—and rejected—in multiple other courts.” Additionally, it has already resulted in a contempt order due to repeated filings.
As of now, Jay-Z has not publicly acknowledged paternity, nor has a legal ruling declared him Satterthwaite’s biological father. The case is ongoing.
