Here’s what Michelle and Barack Obama said about divorce rumors
In a much-anticipated episode of the IMO Podcast, Michelle Obama and her husband, former President Barack Obama, addressed persistent divorce rumors.
With Michelle’s brother, Craig Robinson, co-hosting, the episode opened with light teasing and playful banter as they set up anticipation for their “very, very, very special” guest. “This is the episode that everyone’s been waiting for with bated breath,” Robinson said, before announcing, “We have my brother-in-law, your husband, the former president of the United States.”
Michelle chimed in, saying, “He made time in his busy schedule to come on. We are honored.” The couple greeted each other warmly, prompting Robinson to joke, “Wait, you guys like each other?” Michelle responded with a chuckle, “That’s the rumor mill.” The former President added humorously, “She took me back! It was touch and go for a while,” to which Michelle replied, “Now, don’t you start.”
Robinson said, ”It’s so nice to have you both in the same room.” This prompted laughter from Michelle, who said, “I know, because when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”
Rumors surrounding the Obamas’ marriage began circulating after Michelle was absent from two high-profile events, namely Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter. With no public explanation for her absence, speculation quickly spread.
In addition, a separate 2024 rumor falsely linked Barack Obama to Friends star Jennifer Aniston. The actress dismissed the claim during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in October, saying, “I was not mad at it, but that is absolutely untrue.”
