With trade rumors circling San Francisco 49ers star Jauan Jennings, the Pittsburgh Steelers seem to have emerged as one of the leading candidates to land the wide receiver’s signature, if such an opportunity arises. While Jennings has been with the 49ers throughout his NFL career, current dynamics suggest that the seasoned athlete could be on the cusp of parting ways with Kyle Shanahan’s side.
Have the San Francisco 49ers traded Jauan Jennings to the Pittsburgh Steelers?
At the time of writing, the 49ers have not traded Jauan Jennings to the Steelers, or any other NFL team for that matter.
However, ongoing rumors indicate that the 28-year-old footballer could soon consider putting in a trade request with San Francisco. Jennings is reportedly vying for a significant improvement on his current contract with the 49ers. Nonetheless, Schefter’s update suggests that if Jennings fails to secure a better deal with his current side before the start of training camp next week, the Tennessee Volunteers alum might ask for a transfer to a team that would match his financial demands.
According to CBS Sports‘ Cody Benjamin, the Pittsburgh Steelers could be a possible destination for Jauan Jennings if his negotiations with the 49ers don’t bear any fruit. In his latest report, the renowned journalist noted that the six-time Super Bowl champions are actively looking to recruit players to help their starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. In this situation, “Jennings might cost a lot less than another premium target. Better yet, he brings the kind of rugged physicality and positional versatility that offensive coordinator Arthur Smith would likely prefer,” Benjamin stated.
Jauan Jennings’ proposed trade links with the Steelers and other NFL teams are a result of his reported demand for an improved contract. The highly-rated wide receiver, who is set to earn $7.5 million in the final year of his deal with the 49ers, is coming off his best NFL season to date, having recorded 77 receptions, 975 yards, and 6 touchdowns last campaign.
