British musician and actor David Kaff, best known for his role in This Is Spinal Tap, has passed away. According to a statement shared by his bandmates in Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom, he died peacefully in his sleep. Now, many fans want to know what happened.
Here are all the details.
David Kaff cause of death explained
David Kaff, the actor and keyboard player, has died at the age of 79, according to a post shared by his bandmates in Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom. The announcement, made on Facebook, stated that Kaff “passed away peacefully in his sleep.” They also added, “David always had a kind word and a quick wit that would slay you where you stand. Then he’d make you smile doing it! RIP dear brother.”
Kaff, whose full name was David Kaffinetti, was born in Folkestone. He began his journey in music with classical piano training before shifting toward rock as a teenager. In his early twenties, he co-founded the progressive rock band Rare Bird. This band saw major success with their 1969 hit “Sympathy.” Rare Bird remained active through the mid-1970s, releasing five studio albums and was one of the first groups signed to Charisma Records.
Though his music career was already well established, Kaff’s pop culture fame came with his role as Viv Savage, the eccentric keyboard player of the fictional metal band in This Is Spinal Tap (1984). He later performed with the band during its promotional tour. This includes a performance on Saturday Night Live, but exited the act by the end of that year.
In later decades, Kaff remained active in music, playing with groups like Model Citizenz and Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom. Although a sequel to This Is Spinal Tap is set for release on September 12, Kaff did not participate in the project.
