While speaking to PEOPLE recently, Superman stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan shared behind-the-scenes stories from their time on set, offering a glimpse into their dynamic. During the interview, the two were asked what surprised them most about each other while filming.

According to Corenswet, it was Brosnahan’s delivery of a particular line that sparked a completely spontaneous reaction. “She made me curse at her,” he recalled. While laughing, the actor continued, “The way she delivered one particular line made me sort of involuntarily say, ‘Oh f— you,’ which I think was a shock to all of us.” He added, “She got me, she caught me off guard and made me feel really hurt in that moment. And so I, in character, but uh shot back at her.”

Brosnahan also remembered a humorous take during a scene where Superman gets injured. “There’s a moment where Superman is a little worse for wear, shall we say,” she explained. The actress added, “And there’s a moment of connection between him and Lois. It’s really charged and really powerful and kind of moving.”

However, in one particular take, she couldn’t help but laugh. Brosnahan explained, “And then there was one take where David, just his expression of how injured he was, was so funny. I think about that face he made in that moment all the time.” Laughing, she added, “So good.”

During the same interview, Brosnahan also took a moment to praise her co-star’s dedication to the role. She said, “It was fun to watch him work. He’s a really fearless actor. Um, I think he was playing with the different sides of this character all the time.”
