Girls’ Lena Dunham Praises Taylor Swift, Says ‘She Brings Everyone Together’

Girls creator Lena Dunham has credited Taylor Swift for helping her connect with an actor she cast in her upcoming Netflix rom-com Good Sex. Dunham met the movie star at the pop icon’s 2024 Eras Tour stop in London and pitched her the role on the spot. The rest, as one can say, is history.

Lena Dunham is thanking Taylor Swift for making the world “go round.”

Dunham recently talked to Variety and shared the interesting story of her casting Meg Ryan for the upcoming film, Good Sex. The 39-year-old director revealed that she met the You’ve Got Mail star in London at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert.

After chancing upon each other, Dunham decided to pitch the role to Ryan. She stated, “I decided it’s now or never, and I’m going to shoot my shot. She couldn’t be a lovelier person.” The pitch definitely worked, and Dunham believes Swift has played a special part in it. The artist said, “Shout-out Taylor — thank you for that. She brings everyone together; she makes the world go round.”

Dunham and Swift have shared a deep friendship that spans nearly a decade. Dunham appeared in the hitmaker’s 2015 “Bad Blood” music video. Later, Swift was one of the bridesmaids at Dunham’s 2021 wedding to British artist Luis Felber.

The director also attended Eras Tour shows multiple times, including one time in Boston and one in Pittsburgh. In an interview with The New Yorker, she revealed her “protective” stance toward her famous friend. Dunham revealed that she frequently encounters questions about her famous friend’s personality.

Dunham did offer insight into Swift’s character. “She’s everything that you would want her to be,” the director gushed. “She’s kind, she’s devoted, she’s introspective, she’s emotional, she’s funny as f—” (via Billboard).

In other news, Netflix revealed that the production for Good Sex has already begun in New York. The film features Oscar winner Natalie Portman. The acclaimed actress portrays the role of a couples’ therapist who is turning 40 and trying to explore the New York dating scene.

Apart from Portman, Severance star Tramell Tillman has also joined the cast. Other confirmed cast members include Meg Ryan, Rashida Jones, Mark Ruffalo, and Tucker Pillsbury. Natalie Portman and Sophie Mas would produce the upcoming NYC rom-com through their MountainA banner, while Lena Dunham and Michael Cohen would back the project via Good Thing Going Productions.
