Corenswet, who will don the iconic red cape in Gunn’s highly anticipated reboot, recently described how their working relationship is, with both men expressing mutual admiration for their equation.

Speaking to GQ, David Corenswet revealed how their creative chemistry “just clicked.” Meanwhile, James Gunn praised what he calls their “beautiful relationship” as they bring the Man of Steel back to the big screen.
Corenswet shared, “I think in a lot of ways, James and I are made for each other.” He further explained how the duo brought life to Superman. The 32-year-old actor detailed Gunn’s unconventional working style. He divulged that the latter likes to shout specific instructions to the artists while the camera is rolling.
Moreover, Corenswet noted that this approach was great for him, “because I have no idea what I’m doing.” He added, “I desperately need a director. I need a director who knows what they want and is willing to say it out loud without too much politeness and without beating around the bush. If I’m no good, tell me I’m no good, and then let’s work together to make me good.”
James Gunn also disclosed his dynamic with David Corenswet lies in the fact that the latter is not that “sensitive.” The veteran filmmaker said, “And we have a really, to me, beautiful relationship in that way because I’m used to being very sensitive with actors, and you have to be by default, because many actors are incredibly sensitive because they’re putting their emotions on the line onscreen. But with David, he’s not that way. He’s not sensitive like that.”
Also featuring the likes of Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult, Superman is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
