Robert Irwin apologizes for dining and dashing
Robert Irwin recently issued a public apology after an embarrassing dine-and-dash incident at a restaurant in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. In a video shared on Instagram, Irwin candidly explained how he accidentally walked out of the Jetty Pavilion restaurant without paying for his meal.
Irwin shared that he was road-tripping along Australia’s East Coast and had stopped in the coastal town for dinner. He said, “I went in there, and there was a lot of people who saw me and wanted a photo, but it turned into a bit of a frenzy.” The Australian explained how he greeted everyone and picked up his food, but amidst the chaos, he completely forgot to pay. He only realized the mistake the following morning.
Irwin explained, “Then the next morning I wake up and realize, I never paid for my salad. I just did the old dine-and-dash and didn’t even realize. I felt terrible.” He immediately contacted the restaurant and offered to pay remotely. However, despite the mistake, the restaurant staff responded kindly. Irwin added, “They said, ‘We love what you do, it’s all good, sorry for the mix-up — just leave us a good review.’”
Irwin said, “I’ll be coming back up through Coffs Harbour, and I’ll give you the money myself.” He also took the opportunity to promote the small business, urging fans to support the restaurant. Jokingly adding, “Today is not the day I start my life of crime, as much as the tabloids would love that, it’s not happening.”
Following Irwin’s post, the restaurant publicly thanked him in the comments section of his video. Expressing their gratitude, they said, “Being from a humble little coastal town, it means the world to us to have you stop by. We’re all huge fans and truly appreciate the shoutout.”
