In a new interview, Henry Golding didn’t hold back his admiration for Charlize Theron, drawing comparisons between the Academy Award-winning actress and action icon Tom Cruise. Speaking at the film’s Los Angeles premiere, the 38-year-old actor highlighted her work ethic and dedication.
So, here’s everything fans need to know about Golding’s recent words of praise for the veteran actress.
Henry Golding’s comment on Charlize Theron explained
During the star-studded premiere of The Old Guard 2 at Netflix’s Tudum Theater in Los Angeles on June 25, the Crazy Rich Asians actor praised his co-star, comparing her work ethic to Tom Cruise.
Henry Golding didn’t hold back in sharing his admiration for Charlize Theron’s approach to acting and producing. He said in an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, “You know what it is? She leads from the front. She’s like a rare commodity in Hollywood. She is the female counterpart to a Tom Cruise.”
Golding went on to describe the Mad Max: Fury Road star’s commitment on set, saying, “She’s the producer. She’s on set first thing in the morning, last at night, and she’s creating what she wants, and she’s in there with the action. She’s in there with the choreography.” He simply concluded with, “She and Tom Cruise are some of the last of the movie stars.”
Charlize Theron’s decades-long career continues to thrive. She first rose to stardom in the late 1990s and early 2000s and has since earned three Academy Award nominations for Best Actress. Additionally, Theron won the 2004 Oscar for her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos in Monster.
In The Old Guard 2, the 49-year-old actress reprises her role as Andy, also known as Andromache of Scythia. This time, her character goes up against a new enemy played by Uma Thurman. The latter and Henry Golding are among the new additions to the film’s cast.
Returning for the sequel are original cast members KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Vân Veronica Ngô, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The highly anticipated follow-up to 2020’s The Old Guard is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 2.
