Ryan Reynolds has addressed the ongoing legal controversy involving Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively in a new interview. As Baldoni’s $400 million lawsuit against the couple was recently dismissed, Reynolds made pointed remarks about integrity and accountability while reflecting on how the situation has affected his business ventures.
Here’s what Reynolds said in the interview and how it relates to the latest developments in the legal case.
Ryan Reynolds breaks silence with subtle comment on Justin Baldoni amid Blake Lively lawsuit
Ryan Reynolds appeared to take a dig at Justin Baldoni while addressing his business practices in a new TIME100 Companies profile, amid his and Blake Lively’s ongoing legal battle with Baldoni. “If you operate with some degree of core values and integrity, they’re going to help you up. If you’re an a—–e, they’re not,” Reynolds said, referencing how his companies responded during the controversy.
He added, “Accessibility and accountability are a big part of how I do things.”
Justin Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in January 2025, accusing them of defamation and extortion following Lively’s sexual harassment complaint. He also named their publicist and The New York Times in a related libel suit. Baldoni denied all allegations.
Earlier this month, a judge dismissed his countersuit entirely. His lawyer, Bryan Freedman, stated they would not amend the filings and instead focus on defending against Lively’s claims. “Our client will be pursuing additional legal options that are available to us,” Freedman said.
In the TIME profile, Reynolds said the legal attention had no impact on his ventures. “I can read something that says, ‘He should be drawn and quartered.’ I could read something that says I should win a Nobel Prize. Both are meaningless,” he noted. “None of us are comprised of our best moments. None of us are defined by our worst moments.”
Baldoni’s career has faced setbacks since the complaint, including the exit of Man Enough podcast co-host Liz Plank in December 2024. In a public statement, Plank expressed continued support for values aligned with Lively’s. Baldoni’s countersuit followed shortly after Plank’s departure. His podcast has remained on hiatus since October 2024.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have not commented directly on the ongoing proceedings.
