Brad Pitt Says Speaking as an Extra on No Man’s Land Almost Got Him Fired

Oscar winner Brad Pitt recently recounted his days of Hollywood struggles, which included almost getting fired from the set of the movie No Man’s Land as an extra. Pitt also shared the reason that led to his embarrassing early career moment in his latest podcast appearance.

Brad Pitt talks about almost losing his job on Charlie Sheen’s No Man’s Land

Acclaimed actor Brad Pitt tried to break a “protocol” to secure a Screen Actors Guild card, which almost got him fired from a movie set. The actor recalled the experience in the Armchair Expert podcast’s latest episode.

While chatting with Dax Shepard and cohost Monica Padman, Pitt shared that he acted as an extra in the 1987 film No Man’s Land, starring Charlie Sheen. While playing a waiter in a restaurant scene, Pitt broke protocol by speaking an unscripted line.

The actor detailed the scene, which was between Charlie Sheen and D.B. Sweeney. Pitt shares, “It’s a restaurant scene,” adding, “I am the waiter.” As an extra, Pitt did not have dialogue. His role included bringing up and pouring champagne.

The Bullet Train actor added, “They show me how to do it.” But instead of following instructions, the Hollywood heartthrob chose to ad-lib. Pitt also revealed why he had to say a line. Around that time, the Troy star needed a Screen Actors Guild card, which would make him a part of the union representing professionals in the entertainment industry.

But the SAG card’s requirement was speaking roles. So, Pitt desperately needed to speak in a scene to get the card. So, Pitt added his own line to the restaurant scene.

Pitt admitted, “I get to the last actor, and she seemed lower on the totem pole? Maybe? And, literally, the scene is going on, I pour her champagne, and I go, ‘Would you like anything else?’ It was ‘CUT! CUT! CUT!'”

After his brave attempt, the first AD threatened to get him out of the movie. He recalled, “The first AD runs over, ‘You do that again, you’re out of here!!!’ It was just shame for the rest of the night.” Despite the misstep, the moment became a memory for the star, who reflected, “Took a shot!”
