Dakota Johnson is coping well after breakup with Chris Martin
Dakota Johnson is “doing well” nearly three weeks after her split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, according to a source close to the actress.
People confirmed on June 4 that the pair had ended their nearly eight-year relationship. A source told the outlet, “The split wasn’t exactly a shock. They’ve had the same issues for a while.”
Johnson, 35, and Martin, 48, were first linked in 2017 and were last photographed together on May 16 in Malibu, California. The insider said Johnson “wants to live her life very intentionally — she doesn’t want to have any regrets.” They added, “She loves all her creative projects and is excited about her career. She wants a meaningful life on all levels.”
The breakup came three months after another insider told People the couple had been “engaged for years” but were “in no rush to get married” despite sparking engagement rumors in 2020. In August 2024, Johnson’s representative denied earlier breakup rumors and said the couple remained “happily together” at the time.
The Materialists star has recently been promoting her new film, which was released in theaters on June 13. Her next project, Splitsville, is set to premiere on August 22. Johnson attended the Materialists premiere in New York City on June 7.
Martin was photographed in New York City with his 19-year-old son Moses on June 16. He shares Moses and daughter Apple, 21, with his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. In a March 2024 interview with Bustle, Johnson said, “I love those kids like my life depends on it.”
She also expressed admiration for Martin’s musical performances, saying, “I could watch him every day… I’m watching my most favorite being do his most favorite thing.” Martin is scheduled to continue touring with Coldplay.
