Jay-Z Changes Kanye West Lyric While Performing at Beyoncé’s Paris Concert

Jay-Z recently returned to the stage with his guest appearance at Beyoncé’s Paris concert. The rapper performed several tracks with his Grammy-winning wife, including “Crazy in Love” and “Drunk in Love.” Among other songs, Jay-Z also performed “N****s in Paris.” However, he changed the lyrics of his hit collaboration with Kanye West, which could be an indication of his deteriorating relationship with the latter.

So, here’s everything to know about Jay-Z’s sudden modification of his and West’s song and the reason behind the same.

Jay-Z takes a dig at Kanye West by removing his name from lyrics while performing

The “Empire State of Mind” singer made a simple change of lyrics while performing the 2011 track “N****s in Paris” at Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour.

Interestingly, Jay-Z switched the original lyrics that said, “Just might let you meet Ye.” Instead, the 55-year-old rapper sang, “Just might let you meet Bey.” This lyric change could be because he wanted to give a shout-out to his wife, who has successfully managed to bring him back to the live stage.

However, fans speculate that it could also hint at Jay-Z’s current friendship status with Kanye West, following the latter’s scathing X (formerly Twitter) post on his and Beyoncé’s kids. Previously, the “Runaway” singer also went on X and shared his thoughts regarding his professional relationship with Jay-Z. Speaking of the song “Jail,” where the duo collaborated, West ranted, “Why did Jay Z have to say ‘no red hat’ on Jail.” (via US Weekly)

The now-deleted X post further read, “That s*** tore me to my soul. We fought about it and he told me either leave that line on there or take my verse off. Me wearing the red hat was the most stand out example of me going against ‘the program.’ Do you guys think he was instructed to say that?”

Kanye West was seemingly referring to his Make America Great Again (MAGA) red hat that he wore to show his support for Donald Trump. In the song “Jail,” Jay-Z mentions his red hat in the lyrics, “Hol’ up, Donda, I’m with your baby when I touch back road / Told him, “Stop all of that red cap, we goin’ home” / Not me with all of these sins, castin’ stones / This might be the return of The Throne (Throne).”

In another deleted post, West had once mentioned that he loves Jay-Z and “feels bad.” The post detailed his thoughts regarding how the “Renegade” hitmaker and Beyoncé could have helped him during a tumultuous time. (via Page Six)

Meanwhile, Kanye West has yet to comment on Jay-Z’s recent alteration of their song’s lyrics.
