Ryan Reynolds Makes Cryptic Comment Amid Blake Lively & Justin Baldoni Legal Feud

Ryan Reynolds sparked buzz at Cannes Lions 2025 with a remark many took as a nod to the legal battle of his wife, Blake Lively, with Justin Baldoni. He appeared at Stagwell’s Sport Beach to promote his football club, Wrexham AFC, and delivered a mix of humor and sharp commentary during the panel.

Here’s what Ryan Reynolds said on stage and how it ties into the high-profile court case involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

Ryan Reynolds made a subtle reference to the ongoing legal dispute involving his wife, Blake Lively, and actor-director Justin Baldoni during a panel at Stagwell’s Sport Beach at Cannes Lions 2025. While handing a water bottle to an attendee, Reynolds remarked, “I’m not throwing this. I’ve been around lawyers. You can walk up here and grab it.”

The actor appeared at the event to promote Wrexham AFC, the Welsh football club he co-owns with Rob McElhenney. Reynolds discussed how his appreciation for the sport developed over time, stating, “I’m used to being so tense at matches. I get 8,000 steps in just pacing, like I have rabies.” He added, “That’s when everyone in Wales was like, ‘Ah, yes. Now you know.
Now you’re a fan!’”

Reynolds drew a connection between Wrexham and struggling communities globally, saying, “There is a Wrexham everywhere. In every state in the United States, in every country in the world, there are towns that have lost industry, that lost hope.” (via Page Six)

He also addressed how sports can unite people amid global divisions: “We live in a world right now that is so… identity politics… almost a religion. For that to be checked at the door in sports, in theatrical film, and in music, concerts, we all walk in, we go together.”

Reynolds explained this unity as “collective effervescence,” calling it a bonding mechanism: “It’s almost like oxytocin with a baby… it’s a beautiful thing to watch people come together.”

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are fighting a legal battle with Justin Baldoni. He directed Lively in the film It Ends With Us. Reynolds also co-owns Australia’s SailGP team, the Flying Roos, with Hugh Jackman. He spoke about the rising trend of celebrity team ownership.
