Sydney Sweeney spills details about how she got the Tate McRae song gig
Sydney Sweeney recently shared the backstory behind her unexpected feature on Tate McRae’s song “Miss Possessive.” She credited her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell for making the connection happen.
During a guest appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson asked how the collaboration happened and whether Sweeney already knew McRae. Sweeney admitted she had long admired McRae’s work, saying, “So, I have been a huge fan of her music. I think she’s so beyond talented and she’s so hot.” She went on to explain how collaboration came together after Powell acted as the go-between.
According to Sweeney, “Glen actually connected me with her. He was like, ‘Hey, Tate wants me to connect you two. Can I give her your number?’ I said, ‘Yeah, sure.’” Following that introduction, McRae contacted Sweeney and asked her to send a voice recording for her upcoming album. The actress said, “She reached out and was like, ‘Hey, I really would love to sample your voice for a portion of my song on my new album. Would you be down?’ And I’m like ‘Hell yes.’”
Sweeney saying, “No, seriously, get your hands off my man,” became the opening line of the album’s first track, “Miss Possessive,” which appears on McRae’s So Close to What. The moment quickly became a highlight for fans, who were surprised to hear Sweeney’s voice on the song.
Both Clarkson and Sweeney agreed that the collaboration was a ”cool” moment, with the actress clearly thrilled to be involved. The revelation arrived just as Powell’s ex, Gigi Paris, appeared to break her silence about their breakup.
