Scarlett Johansson has reflected on her relationships wth non-actors in a new interview with her former MCU co-star David Harbour. Notably, Johansson is currently married to comedian, writer, and actor Colin Jost, and has been married twice before. Johansson and fellow actor Ryan Reynolds were married from 2008 to 2011. She was also married to French businessman Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017.
Scarlett Johansson shares the challenges of dating non-actors
Johansson spoke about the negative aspects of dating a non-actor during her conversation with Thunderbolts* and Black Widow star David Harbour for Interview magazine. Harbour brought up being in relationships with “normal people” and how they sometimes didn’t get what it was like to be an actor. In response, Johansson stated that she had had “serious relationships” with individuals who weren’t necessarily part of the industry. The Jurassic World Rebirth actress added, “I found one of the challenges was that the person had no idea of what I needed to do my job.”
Johansson used the example of dating an oncologist and how she wouldn’t know the precise details about their job, before noting that it wasn’t as abstract as that when it came to actors. She observed that jealousy often became a part of her relationships with non-actors. Johansson elaborated, “Actors by nature are very free-spirited, and they create very intimate relationships with people at work. They can be loyal to a partner and also very engaged in all these other kinds of relationships, and I think it can be a blurry line for some people.”
According to Johansson, the relationship an actor shares with the public “can be a complicated thing for people outside of the industry to understand.”
Notably, Johansson has one daughter with Dauriac, named Rose. When she filed for divorce from Dauriac in March 2017, she claimed that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.” (via USA Today) Johansson married Jost in a ceremony at their home in New York in 2020. The couple welcomed their son, Cosmo, in 2021.
