Pop icon Katy Perry experienced a sudden fan ambush on the Sydney concert stage on June 9. The Grammy-nominated singer was performing her 2008 hit track “Hot N Cold” while also playing a guitar when a fan suddenly jumped on the stage. The fan put his hand on Perry’s shoulder, and the singer looked shocked by the intrusion.

Perry quickly turned around and walked away from the fan as security personnel approached the intruder. To the audience’s surprise, Perry’s fan on stage did the famous Fortnite dance and even tried to escape the security’s reach (via Billboard).

The “California Gurls” songstress acknowledged the situation as she said, “Well, there’s never going to be another show like this. So just enjoy it, Sydney.”

Netizens discussed the sudden intrusion on social media, noting that such behaviors should not be normalized. One fan stated on X (formerly Twitter), “This is not ok… We have got to open the conversation up on how to keep people safe. This might seem like innocent humor, but this could have ended terribly under different circumstances.”

A second fan echoed the sentiment, adding, “Why would anyone think that this is acceptable behavior at a concert?” Another fan praised Perry’s professionalism, writing, “This isn’t funny, and Katy needs better security. She quickly established distance and carried on like a pro.”

As per The Sydney Morning Herald, the intruder was identified as Johnson Wen, a “serial prankster.” Wen also has a TikTok page with the username “Pyjama Man.”

After Perry’s stage ambush, the police arrested Wen. As per the police authorities of New South Wales, Wen went to Auburn police station. He is facing two offense charges: “entering enclosed land and obstructing a person in performance of work or duties.”
