Pippa Scott cause of death explained
Pippa Scott, the accomplished actress known for her roles in The Searchers and Auntie Mame, has died at the age of 90. Her daughter, Miranda Tollman, confirmed that Scott passed away peacefully on May 22 at her home in Santa Monica due to congenital heart failure. She is survived by her daughters, Miranda and Jessica, and five grandchildren.
Scott gained early recognition for her roles in two major mid-century films: as Lucy Edwards in The Searchers (1956) and as Pegeen Ryan in Auntie Mame (1958). Her screen career spanned decades, with credits in films such as My Six Loves, Petulia, Cold Turkey, The Sound of Murder, and The Confession.
Born in Los Angeles on November 10, 1934, Scott came from a family with Hollywood roots. Her father, Allan Scott, was a screenwriter renowned for writing musicals such as Top Hat and Swing Time. Meanwhile, her mother, Laura Straub, was a stage actress. She studied at Radcliffe, UCLA, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before making her Broadway debut in Child of Fortune in 1956.
Scott had guest roles in over thirty major series, including Perry Mason, Dr. Kildare, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Mission: Impossible, Wagon Train, and Columbo. She also took part in the early development of the Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, working alongside John Houseman.
Scott married Lorimar Productions co-founder and television producer Lee Rich in 1964. Though they divorced in 1983, they reconciled in 1996 and stayed together until Rich’s death in 2012.
Due to her family’s experience with political blacklisting, Scott became a passionate advocate for human rights. In 1993, she founded the International Monitor Institute. She also established Linden Productions.
