Tom Felton’s Return to Harry Potter as Draco Malfoy Gets Mixed Reactions

Tom Felton is all set to make his Broadway debut as Draco Malfoy in the stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, prompting fans to react online. While some fans are feeling nostalgic to watch Felton return to his career-defining Harry Potter role, others joked that he could also fit the role of Lucius Malfoy, which was originally played by Jason Isaacs in the movies.

Fans have mixed views on Tom Felton’s Draco Malfoy return

The pride of Slytherin house, Tom Felton, will reprise his role as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Fans have mixed reactions regarding the 37-year-old English actor portraying an adult Malfoy, replacing Aaron Bartz.

Felton’s Broadway debut also marks an iconic moment, as this is the first time an original actor from the Harry Potter film will reportedly participate in the Broadway production. Viewers can watch Felton’s on-stage magic at the Lyric Theatre in New York City starting from November 11. The project will run for 19 weeks.

Harry Potter fans have been discussing the legendary actor’s Broadway debut on social media. One fan joked on Reddit, “Actually, [he is] looking like his father [Lucius]. Another added, “I haven’t really seen any of his stuff that isn’t [Harry Potter]. But I actually think he was the best child actor in it. I thought the main three took a good few movies, whereas Draco was good from the start.”

Several commented that he should try breaking out of his Harry Potter image. A Redditor opined, “He’s been in a lot since Harry Potter. But yeah, he needs to move on.”

Supporting his decision, one fan wrote, “He’s getting to play the role he’s famous for, this should be a thrill for fans to get to witness him perform live in this role.”

Felton himself seems excited about his Broadway debut. The actor told Today, “It’s very much a pinch-me situation.” He added, “I keep thinking I’m dreaming. I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I get to step back into his shoes, as a father this time, in a new story…I don’t know him that well as an adult. So that’s the exciting challenge ahead for me.”

Just like viewers, Felton also grew up with Harry Potter. He started working in the Harry Potter movies when he was only 12. Speaking of the decade-spanning role, the actor noted, “‘Potter’ was a massive chunk of my childhood, and now I get to sort of go back whilst also going forward.”
